South West Ambulance Trust Strategy

This PDF reviews the pressures our Ambulance service is currently coping with.

The South West population is expected to increase by 16% over the next 20 years and it can only become harder for the service to meet its mission objective of responding quickly and safely to patients’ emergency and urgent care needs, at every stage of life and to reduce anxiety, pain and suffering.

Those aged over 65 use between one and two thirds of all ambulance resources with the number of frailty cases in patients over 80 set to double in next 20 years. One third of over 65’s fall at least once each year and with non injury falls being a category 3 or 4 wait times can be as long as 180 minutes.
